Intro to Breakdance
Breakdance is broken down into four main categories of movement: toprock, footwork, power moves, and freezes. Toprock is usually the intro, and includes basic steps that can be applied to any beat. Footwork is the framework that starts down on all fours, and is based around the six-step. Extra style is added to footwork with kickouts, cc's, threads, and other various tricks that are fundamental to breaking style. Power moves are acrobatic spins, flips, and flares that take years to learn, but many are formed around easier movements that anyone can do. Freezing is the way a breaker puts an exclamation point at the end of their dancing sentence, to make the crowd scream, OOOOOHHH!!!
Please note: You do not need to have incredible strength to take this class! Just a willingness to learn and throw down!
I am a fire spinner, hooper, juggler, and breakdancer from Boston, MA. I won the pex hoop showdown in 2013 with a hybrid breakdance/hoop style that I unveiled for the first time in that battle.
